Congratulations to Alana Fleet who is this year's recipient of the Faculty of Health Professions Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Research.聽 This award was presented at the IHRTP Graduate Student Research Day held on May 14, 2013.
Alana is studying for a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Research in the School of Physiotherapy.聽 Her multiphase research project "Modified constraint induced movement therapy to improve upper extremity function in Canadian neurological rehabilitation" aims to improve functional upper limb recovery after stroke, using constraint induced movement therapy.聽 Although highly regarded by physiotherapists and researchers, little was known about its utility or effectiveness.聽 Alana's three stage research approach aims to answer these questions by:
- identifying the barriers to the use of constraint therapy.聽 The findings from this stage in her research were presented at a national conference and published in Physiotherapy Canada;
- reviewing the literature;
- and performing a clinical trial, which is still in progress.
During her time at 黄色直播, Alana has had numerous scholarships, awards, presentations and publications to her credit; and continues to exhibit promising potential for her future academic studies.
