The Bertha Wilson Honour Society was established in 2012 to recognize the Schulich School of Law’s extraordinary alumni and showcase their geographic reach and contributions to law and society.

The Society is named for The Honourable Madam Justice Bertha Wilson (LLB ’57) – the first woman appointed to the Ontario Court of Appeal and the first female Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada.

We are delighted to introduce this year's Bertha Wilson Honour Society inductees.

Her dedication to social justice and human rights extends far beyond the courtroom. She has volunteered with a range of organizations and boards, including the Canadian HIV Legal Network and the AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia, making a tangible impact in her community and beyond.

Longley is an active contributor to the legal community, presenting at national and international conferences and collaborating with organizations such as the United Nations and the World Bank. Her work has earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious designation of King’s Counsel.

Dr. Bill Rand | British Columbia

Rand’s philanthropic efforts encompass a wide range of causes including the arts, healthcare, and social services, where his support has helped advance critical initiatives and provided vital services to those in need. A firm believer in the transformative power of education, his contributions go far beyond monetary donations as he has been actively involved in governance, fundraising efforts, and student recruitment initiatives at the educational institutions he supports.
