Career Path

After graduation, I worked at the Federal Court of Canada as a law clerk for the Trial Division. On returning to Halifax, I completed my articles in 2001 and practiced law at the law firm of Daley Black. Following several firm mergers, I ended up at the law firm of McInnes Cooper. My practice area was commercial and intellectual property law, and I represented clients in the technology sector. In 2006, I was given the opportunity to move "in-house" at McInnes Cooper in a management role, working on technology and knowledge management issues for the firm. Currently, I am back representing clients on large projects, working as a project manager on complex transactions.

Information Management in Action

The combined MLIS/LLB has led me down a number of interesting career paths. With changing client needs and the introduction of technology, the legal industry has changed dramatically in the last decade. Law is an area that is in need of people with information management and process oriented thinking.

Last words

The MLIS program at Dal opened doors for me professionally that I did not conceive of at the time of graduation. In an increasingly complex and information saturated world, the discipline one can bring to a matter with a deep understanding of information management makes you a valuable asset on a team.
