Student Congratulations ‑ April 2014

Congratulations to students in the Faculty of Health Professions on their recent achievements:

  • Christine Cassidy (Nursing) received a CIHR Canadian Graduate Scholarship - Master's Program.  Christine's research in the area of sexual health knowledge among university undergraduate students in Atlantic Canada is supervised by Drs. Janet Curran and Audrey Steenbeek.
  • Jesse Robson (MSc Physiotherapy) is the recipient of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association's 2014 Helen Saarinen Rahikka Student Leadership Award and the Senior's Health Division Student Award.  The awards will be presented at the Canadian Physiotherapy Association Congress in Edmonton, Alberta in June 2014.  Read more about Jesse and her awards on the .
  • Laura Minard (Pharmacy) won the poster award as selected by delegates at the 2014 Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH) symposium for "Statin utilization among beneficiaries of the Nova Scotia Seniors' Pharmacare Program over a 14-year period." (Laura V. Minard, Ying Zhang, Ingrid Sketris, Judith Fisher, Amber Corkum, Ahmed Saleh).  There were over 50 posters and over 500 delegates at the meeting.  
  • Graduates of the Master of Health Administration program were recognized for their acheivements at the annual REA+CH Dinner and Awards Ceremony:
    • Kate Mercier - Glen Moore Memorial Award
    • Madeline Timlin and Kate Mercier - First Year Student Association Academic Award
    • Jennie Ding - CCHL Bluenose Chapter Award and Health Association Nova Scotia Award
    • Victoria Smith - Robert Wood Johnson Award and Nestman Prize for Accounting Excellence
    • Lauren Holladay - Edward L. Roach Award
    • William Lowe - Peter Ruderman Award
    • Karla Bray - Alan D. Thomson Award
    • Andrew Milligan - Alumni Award
    • Janet Simm - KP Richard CCH Award
    • Parveen Brar - Association of Health Administration Students Award
    • David Moore - Dr. Thomas Rathwell Award
  • Janet Simm (Health Administration) was recently appointed at President and CEO of Northwood.  Janet, who is completing the Master of Health Administration program on a part-time basis, was previously Vice-President Health Services at the South Shore District Health Authority; Director, Policy Planning and Decision Support at the Health Association of Nova Scotia; Director - System Planning and Liaison in Continuing Care, Nova Scotia Department of Health and Vice-President, Operations, VON Canada (Nova Scotia Branch).
