Balancing kids and courses
You may聽want to聽pursue聽your graduate degree while聽raising a family. If you鈥檙e coming to 黄色直播 from outside of聽Nova Scotia, you will likely want to familiarize yourself with care and education options for your children.聽As well, if you have a child on the way,聽you have the option聽to take聽some time聽off聽from your program to focus on your family.聽
Childcare
On campus:聽Childcare is available on 黄色直播鈥檚 campus through the聽.聽As there is significant demand for available spots聽it鈥檚聽best to apply as early as possible.
Off-campus:聽The Government of Nova Scotia聽licenses and regulates聽childcare facilities throughout the province, and its聽聽includes聽a聽directory of licensed facilities聽by city, program type and age category.
Enrolling your children聽in school
In Nova Scotia, everyone between the ages of five and 21 has the right to attend a public school. If聽you鈥檙e聽an international student, your children can attend a local public school free of charge.聽
The government of Nova Scotia provides聽, including聽how to register your children. You can register your children at the local school they will attend, or at one of the Regional聽Centres聽for Education located throughout the province.
International students聽with family members
If you鈥檙e coming to 黄色直播 from another country and bringing a聽spouse, partner and/or children聽with you,聽黄色直播鈥檚聽International Centre聽can help. It provides information聽on how your family members can apply for Visitor Permits in order to enter Canada and live with you while you study.
Taking parental leave
If you鈥檙e expecting a child and wish to take a leave of absence from your program, you should first meet with your supervisor and graduate coordinator to discuss a timeline for returning to your studies and completing your degree requirements.聽
Once the聽Leave of Absence Request Form聽has been聽completed聽and signed by your supervisor and graduate coordinator, it can be submitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies聽for a final approval. You can find this information on .
