Master Gardener Training program

Interested in improving your gardening skills?Ìý

Get together with other gardeners who share a passion for horticulture and are dedicated to learning and growing their knowledge to share with their community or those wanting to become a Master Gardener.

The training program consists of four independent-study classes available online. Participants have the opportunity to take one course or all courses.Ìý

Master Gardeners in Training must successfully complete an educational component in addition to required annual volunteer hours before they can become certified Master Gardeners.Ìý

Registration opens August 19. Courses startÌýOctober 1,2024Ìýand registration ends January 31, 2025.ÌýAll students will have until July 31, 2025, to complete their course(s).

Required Courses:

1. The Science of GardeningÌý
Gives you a comprehensive understanding of a plant’s basic functions, its interactions with its surroundings, and its responses to environmental change.Ìý

2. Maintaining the GardenÌý
Examines plant health and how it relates to common garden practices. Develop strategies to maintain both a healthy garden and the local environment.Ìý

3. Plant Identification and UseÌý
Introduces you to over 100 plants commonly grown in gardens and focuses on their identification and use.Ìý

4. The Art of GardeningÌý
Begins by exploring that green backdrop to garden art, the lawn. From there, you will examine the cultivation of fruits and vegetables.Ìý

Master Gardener Summer School

A gardening skill building retreat! Ìý

Summer School encompasses a week of on-site, hands-on learning activities for the classroom and outdoors building horticulture-related skills at the Truro Campus.Ìý

You will learn from expert horticulturists and Certified Master Gardeners on topics including plant propagation, planting techniques, pruning, garden maintenance, pests and diseases, troubleshooting plants and gardens, fertilizing, liming, mulching and composting.Ìý

Summer School is open to anyone with an interest in expanding their gardening knowledge and skills. It is only a requirement for the Atlantic Master Gardener Training Program. You do not have to be registered in the Master Gardener Certificate Program to participate!Ìý
