Originally from Newfoundland, Sam began her post-secondary studies at Memorial University in St. John鈥檚, completing her degree at Saint Mary鈥檚 University in 2018. Sam received her BA Honours Linguistics with a focus on Neurolinguistics and a minor in Psychology. She then began her work in healthcare as a private memory clinic coordinator and psychometric rater, and subsequently, as a research data manager with NS Health鈥檚 Atlantic Clinical Cancer Research Unit. In April 2020, Sam was redeployed to Infectious Disease, bringing integral support to all aspects and stages of their fast-paced COVID-19 clinical research studies in hospital and long-term care settings. Since university, Sam has volunteered with the long-term care recreational therapy program at Northwood, and in August 2021, her passion for working with geriatric populations led her to join the GMR team as a research coordinator. In her off-hours, Sam is a regular volunteer with NS Public Health鈥檚 COVID-19 rapid testing program providing testing services to Nova Scotia鈥檚 vulnerable and underhoused populations, while continuing to assist with Infectious Disease research on an ad hoc basis.
