What is my favorite thing about working at Dal?
My favorite thing about working at Dal would be my colleagues and the students. I work with so many wonderful people from various diverse backgrounds. My colleagues have become friends and we consider ourselves 鈥渇amily鈥.听 I have the pleasure of getting to know the students on a personal level and able to assist with their educational learning experiences here at Dal. The students who I work with become part of the unique department I work at and most of the students remain lifelong friends with their peers.听 听
Which has been more valuable in your career, your education, or your experience? Why?
My experience at Dal has been the most valuable because it has taught me many life lessons. I鈥檝e been working at Dal for almost 15 years and have learned so much. I started as a part-time casual clerk, filling in on a maternity leave, while I was taking courses. It turned out that the department needed a fulltime admin person and I needed a fulltime job. This position has given me the opportunity to show my strengths while learning new practices in our growing economy. It has allowed me to go to various communities, meet new people and encourage university learning to mature students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend university. Watching the students learn and grow and become the best version of themselves is truly remarkable. I am so fortunate that I get to experience that; it is truly rewarding. 听
When you are feeling tired out, what is your go to strategy for regaining balance?
My day starts off with morning prayer and meditation. When I am feeling tired out, my go-to strategy for regaining balance is to go for a walk, weather permitting of course. We live in a beautiful community with a beautiful campus so a change of scenery can change your mindset. I find that even getting up from my desk and walking around the office/building is a great refresher. Other times, you can find me close to the water. I like to go to Black Rock Beach/Point Pleasant Park and walk the trails or sit and feed the squirrels and birds while enjoying the beautiful view of the ocean.
