Job Description
The Research Assistant will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers to support an exciting, large scale, longitudinal study on the development of reading in school aged children. Primary responsibilities will include: data collection in schools, data entry, updating datasets, cleaning and analyzing data, conducting systematic literature reviews, and other related duties.Â
Key to this role will be gaining rich experience administering experimental and standardized tasks to children in a school setting. Other duties could include: conducting experiments with adults and administrative tasks to support the lab and research team as needed. This experience includes extensive training and will be highly valuable for any subsequent research-oriented job in psychology, as well as provide highly transferable skills for any professional work environment. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and Lab Manager.
Our new team member will have…
·        a Bachelor of Arts or Science with a major or minor in Psychology
·        a demonstrated interest in developmental psychology
·        experience working with children
·        an excellent academic record as demonstrated by a minimum of 3.7+/4.3 cumulative GPA on your transcripts
·        a professional demeanor and effective interpersonal skills
·        a willingness to travel to schools in HRM and rural Nova Scotia as needed
·        accuracy and attention to detail
·        strong MS Office skills (especially Excel and Word
·        strong oral and written communication skills (writing sample could be requested)
·        a clear Criminal Record, Vulnerable Sector, and Child Abuse Registry checks and/or be able to obtain them
Bonus points for having…
·        experience working in a school environment
·        experience administering experimental and/or standardized tests
·        experience conducting systematic literature reviews
·        experience using statistical software (E.g., SPSS)Â
·        a driver's license and access to a vehicle
