POSITION: Teaching Assistant for SUST 4125.03/MGMT 4125.03: Conflict Negotiation & Sustainability/PLAN 4125.03/PLAN 6125.03: Negotiation & Conflict Management. FALL TERM 2019.

DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: College of Sustainability, 1401 Mona Campbell

PAY RATE: 45 hours as per CUPE Collective Agreement ($1098 gross pay)

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The Teaching Assistant will help facilitate simulated conflict negotiations during 6 of the lectures, Tuesdays 5:35pm - 8:25 pm. The specific dates are in the syllabus. The Teaching Assistant will assist in grading of participation, facilitating class elements, and providing feedback to students. The TA will read all of the required readings.

The course will cover an assortment of topics dealing with local and global conflict negotiation – each negotiation will be conducted through a simulated exercise with several weeks of background lectures and reading used as preparation. Negotiations are team based and cover areas such as resource conflict, local urban planning, and political/economic development. Some familiarity with these topics and approaches is preferred, as the pre and post position papers being graded will be framed in this context.

The Teaching Assistant will be required to provide updates to the course instructor as to their involvement in the simulations and progress on grading throughout the semester.

It is essential that the Teaching Assistant work collaboratively with the course instructor. The Teaching Assistant reports directly to the Program Manager in the College of Sustainability.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Applicants must be »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ students or graduates. Applicants must have experience and a background in a field related to Environment, Sustainability and Society and must be proficient at writing in English. Experience with teaching and marking is an asset. Applicants must be available for the lecture times as described above, and must confirm this in their application. Successful applicants will be required to submit a form signed by their graduate studies supervisor (if applicable) acknowledging the Teaching Assistant position.
