Lecturer for NURS2730.06 Foundation of Nursing Practice (Fall term of the academic year 2019-2020)

Ethical, professional, legal concepts and theories guiding professional nursing practice are examined. Professional identity, collaboration, comportment, and reasoning related to nursing practices are developed. Theories and frameworks are used to investigate health and social care constructs and the impact of hierarchal structures on individual, communal and global health.

This is a 3-credit hour course. Lectures are held Fridays from 0835-1125.

This appointment runs from September 1, 2019 through November 30, 2019. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Studies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Development of teaching and learning activities related to course-specific topic
  • Teach course content
  • Assessment and evaluation of student learning
  • Use of Brightspace for course delivery
  • Respond to student queries about coursework
  • Attend initial instruction with Instructional Learning Online services re: Brightspace
  • Participate in semester 3 course discussions within the program
  • Develop and administer examinations
  • Submission of grades
  • Follow up with students as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Candidates must hold a graduate degree in Nursing, or related field, with a strong background in nursing theory, provincial and national standards of practice, and code of ethics. Prior teaching experience an asset. PhD preferred.

Lecturer for NURS4710.03 Relational Practice and Advanced Clinical Reasoning (Fall term of the academic year 2019-2020)

Students engage in relational inquiry, clinical reasoning and multiple ways of knowing related to health and social care. Evaluation of evidence in the context of people centered care forms the basis for reflective practice that promotes health and wellness and supports management of complex situations.

This is a 3-credit hour course. Lectures are held weekly on Tuesdays from 0835 – 1125.

This appointment runs from September 1, 2019 through November 30, 2019. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Studies.

Instructor for NURS4715.03 Exploratory Nursing Practice (Fall term of the academic year 2019-2020)

Students engage in a broad range of clinical, research or theoretical activities, under the direction of faculty or clinical preceptor/facilitator to complete a project relevant to nursing practice. These learning experiences will assist the student to understand the complexity of the integrated nursing role across a range of settings.

This is a 6-credit hour course. Simulation labs are held Fridays for the first seven weeks of the term.

This appointment runs from September 1, 2019 through November 30, 2019. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Studies.

Evaluation of the processes that influence and support change, as well as system inertia, will assist in developing strategies to improve health for society.

This is a 3-credit hour course. Lectures are held weekly on Mondays from 1435 – 1725.

This appointment runs from September 1, 2019 through November 30, 2019. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Studies.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The part-time academic instructor will be responsible for teaching NURS5200.03 – Health Care System Policy during the Fall term of the academic year 2019-2020.

Health policy can be defined as “a set of interrelated decisions, taken by authorities, concerning the selection of goals and the means of achieving them” (as defined in A Code of Good Practice on Policy Dialogue). This seminar course examines critical issues and trends affecting health policy in addition to the management practices of healthcare delivery services in Canada. Students engage in analytical debate while drawing on the assigned readings, other research, and their own clinical experience. Discussions incorporate historical and global perspectives as well as a range of influencing factors to understand, test, challenge, and contrast the effectiveness of current health policy in relation to the healthcare system in Canada.

FORMAT:

  • Online Delivery

This is a three-credit hour course consisting of one three-hour seminar/week.

The focus of this course is the role of advanced practice nurses in health care. Emphasis will be on the examination and critique of the role components of the clinical nurse specialist, nurse practitioner and combined roles. These components include: direct care, consultation, coaching, research, collaboration, leadership/administration and ethical decision-making. Issues surrounding the implementation of these roles within various health care contexts and clinical specialties will be discussed.
