Career Stream Instructor Position, College of Sustainability

Applications are invited for one full-time, Career Stream Instructor position in the College of Sustainability. The College of Sustainability is internationally recognized for its innovative approach to interdisciplinary undergraduate education. The College offers an undergraduate Environment, Sustainability and Society program which students complete as a double major paired with one of seven Bachelors' degree programs across five »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ Faculties. The ESS program is offered in conjunction with over forty other subject areas. Over 40 »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ professors are presently cross-appointed to the College, which provides an interdisciplinary forum for collaborative learning and teaching on the most pressing issues of our time. This position is mostly focused on teaching responsibilities with some administrative responsibilities in addition to teaching. Applicants should demonstrate accomplishment or potential in both areas. Teaching will be at the undergraduate level, and evidence of previous teaching effectiveness should be provided, including experience of teaching problem-based and project-based approaches, project management, and diverse research methods. The College of Sustainability seeks candidates with a strong interest in and capacity for collaborative interdisciplinary teaching. Candidates must hold a PhD in a sustainability-related field or have equivalent professional experience. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of how their academic background interacts with other disciplines and traditions in the pursuit of a sustainable future, and demonstrate effectiveness in collaborative team-teaching. Successful candidates will be expected to maintain a professional interest in issues related to teaching within the College; a record of contributions to the scholarship of learning and teaching will be an asset.
Primary teaching responsibilities are coordinating and co-teaching core SUST-designated classes in the ESS Major. SUST classes are collaboratively-team taught by multi-disciplinary teams of instructors, supported by graduate teaching assistants. Enrolments are typically 160-300 in first year classes, and 60-90 in upper year classes. This position will include assigned teaching equivalent to 4.0 credits per year, plus honors thesis and/or project supervision. Administrative duties will include routine College duties and participation in special projects in the College (such as the Sustainability Leadership Certificate). This position requires expertise in problem- and project-based learning approaches, project management and planning, broad research methods, and group learning and teaching approaches.
