Lecturer for NURS5620.06 Advanced Practice Role Practicum (Winter term of the academic year 2018-2019)
This course provides the student with the opportunity to integrate, synthesize and analyze previously developed knowledge and skills in an intensive clinical practice experience directly related to the student's chosen client population/discipline in an advanced nursing practice role. Practice settings will offer experiences with clients from diverse populations experiencing acute and chronic illness states with multiple and complex care needs. These will be used to consolidate skill development related to the comprehensive management of clients' needs across the continuum of health. These include advanced skills related to health assessment, diagnostic testing and treatment planning with emphasis on systems thinking, developmental issues and collaboration with clients, families, communities and other healthcare professionals. The student will work closely with a clinical preceptor negotiated by the student and professor. While implementing the advanced practice role, students will consider the organizational, political and healthcare policy related issues that relate to advanced nursing practice and change in healthcare delivery that affect role development and implementation.
This is a 6-credit hour course with a minimum of 400 clinical hours. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Graduate Studies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Development of teaching and learning activities related to the course
- Delivery and co-ordination of the course
- Assessment and evaluation of student learning
- Use of the course management system (Brightspace) for course delivery
- Responding to student queries about coursework
- Attending initial instruction with Instructional Learning services (as appropriate)
- Participation in course discussions within the program
- Monitoring completion of Medical Certificate of Death Learning module
- Develop and administer examinations (as appropriate)
- Submission of grades
- Follow up with students as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Candidates must hold a graduate degree in Nursing, or related field, with relevant expertise and teaching experience. PhD preferred.
