Position Title:  Sustainability Communications Intern

Classification:  Term Position (March 2018 – February 2019)

Salary:  $17 per hour, 32.5 hours per week

Department:  College of Sustainability

Supervision:  Sherry Elliott, Manager, Finance and Administration

Application Period: February 5-14, 2018

PURPOSE OF POSITION

This individual provides support for both the Manager of Outreach and Partnerships and the Engagement and Retention Coordinator with sustainability communication, education, and marketing/recruitment strategies for the College of Sustainability. In addition, this position, partially sponsored by Eco Canada, will use various communications media to inform and educate on »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥'s sustainability initiatives (including research, operations and academics).

RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Create and maintain content for the College's existing communication channels (College website, SustainabilityNews blog, College e-newsletter, Brightspace etc.), social media accounts
(Instagram, FaceBook, Twitter etc.) and forthcoming Sustainability@Dal web portal;

·       Archive all College print, video and photographic content;

·       Liaise with other »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ units (Office of Sustainability, DSUSO, student societies, research services etc.) and off-campus community groups and organizations involved in sustainability;

·       Assist in the development of an alumni engagement strategy and maintain the College alumni and community partnership databases;

·       Develop metrics of communication reach and impact of various sustainability communication campaigns, education and engagement initiatives.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE

Graduate of »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥'s Environment, Sustainability and Society (ESS) program preferred, ideally with a background in science. Experience with scientific writing an asset.

SKILLS

High-level written and verbal communication skills essential. Candidate should possess impeccable interpersonal skills and a high level of professionalism. Time management and flexibility are of the utmost importance and self-direction and independence are required to flourish in this role. An understanding of Brightspace necessary. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel etc.) and graphic design (Canva, Adobe etc.) essential. Proficiency required with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.).
