COURSE INFORMATION: German 1010: German for Beginners (Section 2)
Fall & Winter Terms 2017-2018 (September 1, 2018 – April 30, 2018)
Currently Scheduled: MWF 13:35 – 14:25

WORK ASSIGNMENT: Co-teaching with the German 1010 Coordinator, and following a set plan, the Part-Time Academic is responsible for planning and leading individual classes, administering tests, grading assignments, keeping records and the calculation of final grades. The Part-Time Academic is required to be available to students outside of class time. The Part-Time Academic reports to the German 1010 Coordinator.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in English and German and completed an undergraduate degree. Good teaching skills, including grammar training, commitment to student learning, and strong sense of personal responsibility.

Writing Requirement – Fall & Winter Terms 2017-2018 (September 1, 2017 – April 30, 2018)

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The class will be conducted in English, with references to the original German text and film. The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including admission, lectures, test preparation, evaluation, supervising Teaching Assistants, and electronic submission of grades. The Part-Time Academic should have competence in teaching writing skills as well as novel and film analysis to a large group with widely ranging abilities. The candidate must have strong organizational skills and the ability to lead a team of tutorial leaders and markers. Be available to students outside of class time. The Part-Time Academic reports to the Chair of the Department.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Applicants should possess a graduate degree or other academic and/or professional qualifications deemed suitable for teaching the class. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level would be an asset.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The Part-Time Academic will be required to lead an 'Experiential Learning' applied translation course, working with materials from the Franz Boas Archive, and preparing students for the translation work, including transcription of handwritten German and the formatting required for the digital archive. All collaborative and individual translation work will be reviewed and approved for use by the Franz Boas Papers Project by the Part-Time Academic, who will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including admission, lectures, evaluation, and electronic submission of grades.
Three class hours per week, plus hold weekly office hours.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Applicant should have native or near-native fluency in English and German and possess a graduate degree or other academic and/or professional qualifications deemed suitable for teaching the class. Previous German language teaching and translation experience, especially of historical materials, at the post-secondary level would be an asset.

The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including admission, lectures, test preparation, evaluation, and electronic submission of grades. Three class hours per week, plus hold weekly office hours.

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in English and German, must possess a PhD degree, and have experience teaching at the post-secondary level.
