User Study ‑ Recruitment Notice

Posted by Faculty of Computer Science on November 29, 2016 in General Announcements

I am recruiting participants to take part in a research study exploring user concerns of privacy settings in Social Networking Sites (SNSs) - e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. - and the factors that impact the users’ choices according to Privacy settings Model (PSM). The conceptual model (PSM) of this research is a combination of three primary components: user cognition, user control, and user updates. This model is developed to assist users when choosing SNS privacy settings and to enable ease of updating by keeping users aware of any new privacy setting features. You will be asked to discuss your awareness, understanding, and usage of privacy settings in your preferred SNS such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. In addition, you will be asked about the settings’ updates and the resources that assist you to understand and control the new updates. Also, I will ask you to show me how you have applied your privacy settings. I am looking for participants who are! part of the general »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ community or public including students, staff/faculty, and friends. I am seeking any one who has at least an account in any SNSs and personally manage their privacy settings to participate in this study.

The study will be conducted in one of the meeting rooms, located in Goldberg Computer Science building. You will first meet with the researcher to go over the study details and give consent to participate in the study. The study will start with an observation followed by an interview and the participants’ comments or feedback will be audio and screen recorded. The session will take an hour to complete. You will be compensated $10 for your participation in the study.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Abdulhadi Alqarni (aalqarni@cs.dal.ca).
