WORK ASSIGNMENT:Ìý Positions are available for a course lead and additional lecturers who will participate in delivery of course material. The part-time academics will be responsible for teaching NURS 1000.03F: Introduction to the Foundations of Nursing during the Fall Term, 2014. Responsibilities include delivery of course content, holding office hours, and the evaluation of the students.

The course is designed as an introduction to the major concepts of health and professional nursing. Students begin to develop an awareness of the practice of nursing based on the determinants of health, primary healthcare and major nursing concepts. Emphasis is given to the helping role of nursing. A variety of experiences facilitate learning and students are introduced to the practice of nursing in clinical settings.

Classes are scheduled on Mondays and Tuesdays 12:35 – 14:25 hours, from September 4 – December 2, 2014. The Part-time Academics report directly to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Studies.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: Candidates must hold a graduate degree in pharmacy with relevant expertise and teaching experience. PhD preferred.

The course is designed to introduce students to theoretical bases of nursing to evaluate health behaviours and outcomes. Students build on health assessment skills, and monitor, implement and evaluate nursing interventions. Students are introduced to nursing research to guide reflective nursing practice and the safe use of technology and caring approached in laboratory settings.

The focus of the course is to provide an opportunity for students to understand the cancer experience from the perspective of the patients and their families.
