WORK ASSIGNMENT: The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching the field and lab intensive class, BIOL 3630.03, “Field Methods in Animal Behaviour”. The class will be offered in the Summer session, April 27-May 10, 2013, Monday to Saturday, approx. 0835-1625. Responsibilities include all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, field trips, test preparation, and evaluation of tests and reports. The part-time academic will also be responsible for preparing a budget in consultation with the program director, and keeping field-related expenses within the approved budget. In addition, the part-time academic may be responsible for driving students in vehicles rented by the university. The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before/after the official class dates in preparation for the class/marking assignments. Period of employment is April 21-May 20, 2013.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: A graduate degree in Biology or related field and research experience in Animal Behaviour. Up-to-date (within last 2 years) Standard First Aid and CPR certification and a driver’s license valid in Nova Scotia. Preference will be given to candidates possessing a Ph.D. and/or previous university teaching experience in the subject of the class.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The part-time academic will be responsible for co-teaching the field part of BIOL/ENVS/GEOG 3633.03, “GIS in Ecology”. The class will be offered in the Summer session, June 11-28, 2013. The part-time academic will be responsible for (1) the safety and well-being of students during the 5-days spent at the Harrison Lewis Centre, Port Joli, NS, from June 20-24; (2) designing and managing the field projects, in consultation with the primary class instructor, Jennifer Strang, ɫֱ GIS centre; (3) introducing the field projects during the first week of class; (4) preparing a budget in consultation with the program director, and keeping field-related expenses within the approved budget; (5) planning meals for the 5 days and procuring the food; (6) driving students in vehicles rented by the university; and (7) attending and assisting in the evaluation of the student project presentations on June 28 . The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time BEFORE the official start date to design the field projects, prepare any necessary materials, organize supplies, and arrange logistics for the field portion. Period of employment is June 1-30, 2013.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: A graduate degree in Biology or related field and research experience. WORK ASSIGNMENT: The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching the field and lab intensive class, BIOL 3066.03, “Plant Ecology”. The class will be offered in the Summer session, May 11-25, 2013, Monday to Saturday, approx. 0905-1655. Responsibilities include all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, field trips, test preparation, and evaluation of tests and reports. The part-time academic will also be responsible for preparing a budget in consultation with the program director, and keeping field-related expenses within the approved budget. In addition, the part-time academic may be responsible for driving students in vehicles rented by the university. The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before/after the official class dates in preparation for the class/marking assignments. Period of employment is May 1-31, 2013.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: A graduate degree in Biology or related field and research experience in Plant Ecology. Up-to-date (within last 2 years) Standard First Aid and CPR certification and a driver’s license valid in Nova Scotia. Preference will be given to candidates possessing a Ph.D. and/or previous university teaching experience in the subject of the class.

The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before/after the official class dates in preparation for the class/marking assignments. Period of employment is July 22-August 21, 2013.

PART-TIME ACADEMIC POSTING

WORK ASSIGNMENT: The part-time academic will be responsible for co-teaching the underwater field intensive BIOL/MARI 3680.03, “Scientific Diving Methods in Marine Ecology”. The class will be offered in the Summer session, August 17 – 31, 2013, from 0930-1730. Responsibilities include coordinating instructors, organizing the field and lecture schedule, collating and photocopying lecture handouts, one or more lectures, organizing field logistics, safety and supervision of students underwater, evaluation of student dive logs, driving students in rented vehicles, organizing transportation, scheduling rented vehicles, and keeping receipts of all expenses. The part-time academic will also be responsible for preparing a budget in consultation with the program director, and keeping field-related expenses within the approved budget. The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before the official class dates in preparation for the class, including scheduling the class field activities and lectures, and designing and setting up the underwater exercises. Period of employment is August 1-31, 2013.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: A graduate degree in Marine Biology or a related field and extensive research experience in subtidal marine ecology. Scuba certification as a CAUS scientific diver, and extensive underwater experience diving in cold Atlantic waters. Up-to-date (within last 2 years) Standard First Aid and CPR certification and driver’s license valid in Nova Scotia. Preference will be given to candidates possessing a Ph.D. and/or previous university teaching experience in the subject of the class.
