The 2017 Canada Games wrapped up on August 13 in Winnipeg, MB and the Tigers were well represented with over 40 current and incoming athletes and coaches participating in the games.

In the first week of competition, Tigers men鈥檚 volleyball players Kobe Shannon and Christian Fricke teamed up to win silver for Team Nova Scotia after a hard-fought 2-1 loss to British Columbia in the final. The duo finished second in their pool to advance through to the medal rounds.

鈥淚 am just insanely proud of what we accomplished given the little time we had to prepare for the Games,鈥 says Fricke. 鈥淚t was a bit of a heartbreaker for us in the end as we were on quite the run the rest of the tournament, but all in all I had an absolute blast playing some great beach volleyball with Kobe on a national stage and won't forget this week anytime soon.鈥

Victoria Haworth (Team Nova Scotia) and her partner also had a great Games, finishing fourth in the women鈥檚 beach volleyball event.

Current women鈥檚 soccer coach Cindy Tye led Team Nova Scotia to a bronze medal finish. Incoming Tigers Haley Birrell, Katelyn Fines, Alyssa Hartlen and Olivia MacIntyre played a big role in the win with Fines recording a shutout in their final game. Tigers goalkeeper coach Gary Carter served as an assistant coach at the event.

鈥淲inning bronze at Canada Games was such an amazing experience,鈥 says Birrell. 鈥淲e went in to the tournament as underdogs which made winning that much better. The games really brought the whole team and staff together as one, I will never forget how proud everyone was of each other when we won.鈥

The Tigers track and field athletes also had a great showing representing four provinces at the Games this year. Josh Lunda (Team Nova Scotia) and Savanna Jordan (Team Alberta) led the way with fourth-place finishes in the 100m and 5000m events, respectively.

In week two, Tigers newcomers Catherine Callaghan, Julie Moore, Victoria Turcot and Hannah Wilkie led Nova Scotia to a fifth-place finish with long-time Tigers assistant coach Jon Elliott guiding the team.

Incoming men鈥檚 volleyball player Mathieu Lavoie also helped his home province of Manitoba to a fifth-place finish.

Swim head coach Lance Cansdale led Nova Scotia鈥檚 teams to an eighth-place finish.
