Roaring at the Canada Summer Games

The Tigers will be well represented at this summer鈥檚 Canada Games. A number of current and incoming Tigers will be competing for Nova Scotia and other provinces in Sherbrooke, Quebec August 2-17.

The first week of the Games includes competition in women鈥檚 and men鈥檚 volleyball, swimming and women鈥檚 soccer.

The Nova Scotia women鈥檚 volleyball team boasts seven current Tigers including Abby Czenze, Tara Gowan, Brett Hastings, Jessica Josenhans, Maggie Li, Marisa Mota and Rachel Wright. Also on the team are Julie Thiesen and Anna Dunn Suen who will join the Tigers lineup this fall. Tigers head coach Rick Scott will be at the helm of Team Nova Scotia along with his Tigers assistant coaches Jon Elliott and Patrick Murray. Former Tigers standout Michelle Aucoin is also an assistant coach.

Another current Tiger, Amy Appleby will be on the opposite side of the net of her Tigers teammates playing for Team New Brunswick.

On the men鈥檚 side, the Tigers will have nine current Tigers playing for their respective provinces. Suiting up for Team Nova Scotia are Logan Baillie, Rob Flemming, Nigel Herritt, Robbie Johnson, Glenn Lassaline, Jonathan MacDonald, Connor Maessen, Kristen O鈥橞rien and newcomer Adam Sandeson. Pat Coolen will be playing for Team New Brunswick.

Former Tiger Paul Richer is Team Nova Scotia鈥檚 head coach. He is joined by another former Tiger, Scott Townsend and Tigers long-time assistant coach Eugene Tam.

Swimmers Meghan Toswell and Jeremy Ryant are both competing for Nova Scotia. Toswell will be swimmining in the 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle events. Ryant will compete in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke, the 50m and 100m backstroke and the 100m freestyle events. Incoming freshman, Darragh Somers (brother Aodhan is a swimmer with the Tigers) is also swimming for Team Nova Scotia competing in the 200m and 400m freestyle events and the 400m individual medley. Former Tiger Jacqueline Steele is serving as the team manager.

Nigel Champion (50m and 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly) and James Profit (200m butterfly, 400m freestlye and 400m individual medley) are also swimming in the Canada Games for Team PEI.

Current Tigers Nigel Champion, swimming the 50m and 100m freestyle, and 50m fly, and James Profit, swimming the 200m fly, 400m freestyle, and 400m individual medley, will be competing for Team Prince Edward Island.

Two new faces to the women鈥檚 soccer 2013 lineup will be making the trip to Sherbrooke before Tigers training camp. Adelle Goodfellow and Rachel Hunt are both members of Nova Scotia鈥檚 soccer team.

Week two features Tigers athletes competing in athletics, men鈥檚 soccer, beach volleyball and women鈥檚 basketball.

The athletics contingent representing Team Nova Scotia includes 16 current Tigers on its roster.

Five Team Nova Scotia members will don the black and gold for the first time this season.

They will be led by Tigers jumps coach Kevin Bourgeois who is Team Nova Scotia鈥檚 head coach. Current Tigers throws coach Jonathan Doucette will serve as an assistant coach.

Tigers runner Matt McNeil will be representing New Brunswick in the 1500m and 5000m events.

Nova Scotia鈥檚 men鈥檚 soccer team features Jon Doucette and TJ Leopold who will be hitting the pitch for the first time as Tigers this fall.

Tigers volleyball player Alex Dempsey will join partner Jordan Brooks (UNB) in the beach volleyball competition. Former Tiger Sasha Kosanov will serve as the women鈥檚 beach volleyball coach.

Basketball player Madison Tompkins will be playing for Team PEI, while Tigers assistant coach Kelsey Daley will serve as an assistant coach for New Brunswick鈥檚 women鈥檚 basketball team.
