Good profs

- October 13, 2010

Dal News reporter Michelle Hampson recently asked fellow students, "What qualities does a good professor have? Jing Zhong, who is doing the first-year of a master's degree in economics, responded: "Responsibility, knowledge and patience to answer question to the students. I think these are the three most important things."

Here's what other students had to say:

"My best professor... didn’t treat me like a child. Good professors respect their students."
- Mackenzie Leyland, 21, fourth-year management

They should be "well-informed and passionate about what they are speaking about."
- Tommy Harding, 18, Foundation year, University of King's College
"The best professors are outgoing and "don’t frown upon even the most stupid questions. (They) take time to explain the material and don’t just read the textbook kind of thing, you know?"
- Julian Perrotta, 20, third-year history
"Availability, organization – I hate unorganized profs – and I would say enjoyment of the job."
- Nate Marshall, 24, first-year law

Now it's your turn. What qualities do you appreciate in a professor? The tough-but-fair taskmaster? The professor who's office door is always wide open and welcoming? Don't be shy about naming professors who impress you and tell us why.
