Last Thursday, you may have noticed a sea of pink descending on the lower quad, as several faculty, staff and students officially kicked off the Respect Campaign 2010 at lunch time.
October is National Healthy Workplace Month and, as part of that, »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ has initiated the Respect Campaign. Pink Day in particular was designed to highlight the efforts that are underway at »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ to make it a respectful and inclusive place to work and learn. Custodial staff on the evening shift were just some of the Dalhousians who supported the campaign by donning pink gloves and respect buttons.
The university has committed to create a respectful work environment by offering development opportunities to help people deal with conflict and introduce more collaboration at work. There is also support available through the Offices of Human Rights, Equity and Harassment Prevention and Human Resources, and through the partnerships with our employee groups – DPMG, NSGEU, DFA and NSUPE. As you may have heard, the Employee Benefits Committee sponsored the appointment of an Organizational Health Coordinator, Janice McInnis, who is working across the University to raise awareness and provide resources to help create healthy workplaces.
»ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ is an amazing place to work, and one of the reasons cited in the most recent workplace survey is because of the strong sense of community. By working together, we can ensure the campus is a positive place to work and learn. This is the foundation of a great university – one of the best in Canada.
