Carrying a flame for the torch?

- November 2, 2009

The lighting ceremony in Greece on Oct. 22.

The Olympic flame arrived in Canada last Friday after it was lit in Greece and ran around that country for a week. It was ignited in the ruins of an ancient temple in Olympia and handed over to Canadians in Athens.

In Canada, the relay route is 45,000 kilometres, making it the longest domestic relay in Olympic history. It comes to Cape Breton from Newfoundland on November 16, then to Port Hawkesbury to Truro on November 17, then from Truro to Halifax on November 18, Halifax to Yarmouth on November 19, and through the Annapolis Valley and along the south shore on November 20. Canadian hockey star Sidney Crosby is among those who will carry the Olympic torch in his home province of Nova Scotia.

Are you excited about the Olympic torch run? Will you turn out to watch when it comes through your community?
