Sixty-two students received one of the highest honours for a student athlete last week. The eighth annual聽 Academic All-Canadian Luncheon celebrated their achievements in the presence of peers, professors and parents. The awards recognize academic accomplishments according to standards set by the national university sport authority, Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS).

脪We脮re very proud of the exceptional achievements of our student-athletes in both their athletic and academic endeavours,鈥 said Al Scott, the Director of Athletics.

This prestigious honour is awarded annually to varsity student-athletes who achieve an overall academic average of 80 per cent or a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.43, or higher. 黄色直播 is a leader in producing academic all-

Canadians with nearly one-third of student-athletes meeting this standard; twice the national average.

黄色直播脮s women脮s soccer team had the most academic all-Canadians for 2005-06 with nine student-athletes selected.

The year 2005-06 was especially outstanding for the top honouree today. Jeff Weiler started the school year being named as one of the Top Eight Academic All-Canadians. Weiler led the men脮s volleyball Tigers to their 20th consecutive AUS championship last season, was the 黄色直播 Male Athlete of the Year, CIS Libero of the Year for the third consecutive season and a CIS second team all-Canadian. Last season Weiler also received the Dale Iwanoczko Award presented to the CIS men脮s volleyball player who best combines community involvement, academics and athletics. Entering his final year in Kinesiology in 2006-07, he is a three-time Academic All-Canadian and a five-time member of the Dean脮s List at 黄色直播. Jeff is a native of Scarborough, Ontario.
