Program

Overview

The core program (SCIE 1506/1507 and PHIL 1050) cover two terms of Biology and Psychology, and one term of Earth Science, Statistics and Philosophy. Students also enrol in co-requisite courses including Chemistry, Calculus and (optionally) Physics. Co-requisite courses are taken together with other BSc students.

Students completing the Integrated Science program will have fulfilled the Math requirement, the Social Science requirement, the writing requirement and one half of the humanities requirement for a BSc degree. Student will need to take one additional humanities or language course before they graduate. Note that the Integrated Science program serves in lieu of ENGL 1000 for entry to the School of Pharmacy at »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥.

IB or AP credits in Chemistry, Math or Physics can be used in lieu of taking the corresponding co-requisite course. IB or AP credits cannot be used in lieu of courses in the integrated core (Biology, Earth Science, Philosophy, Psychology, or Statistics).

Program Options

MATH

All students must take at least one term of calculus (unless they are transferring IB (higher level) or AP (calculus) credits). Options are:
• MATH 1000 and 1010 (fall and winter terms) – recommended for students interested in the physical sciences, mathematics or economics
• or MATH 1215 (winter term) – recommended for students interested in the life sciences

PHYSICS

Physics (PHYC 1190/1290 or 1310/1320) is required for several science degree programs, including Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Medical Sciences, Ocean Sciences, Physics). Integrated Sciences who want to take physics may complete it as an overload or may defer it to second year. Students considering an overload should discuss their options with the DISP director (contact: disp@dal.ca). First year physics has two options:
• PHYC 1190/1290: requires calculus, recommended for the physical sciences
• PHYC 1310/1320: does not require calculus, recommended for the life sciences

CHEMISTRY

All students must take CHEM 1011/1012 unless they are transferring IB or AP credits.
CORE: All students must take SCIE 1506, SCIE 1507 and PHIL 1050.
