Searching for the Geological Source of the Titanic Gravestones in Halifax, Nova Scotia |

In three cemeteries in Halifax lie buried 150 victims of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. All but one have headstones of the same coarse-grained olivine-bearing gabbro. We are trying to use the mineralogy, texture, chemical composition, and geological age of the headstones to locate the source quarry. That quarry is probably in the Appalachian-Caledonian orogenic belt of NE USA, Atlantic Canada, Ireland, or Scotland. |
