Instructor Spotlight – Joanne Fraser

Posted by Faculty of Open Learning & Career Development on December 11, 2024 in News

In the newest installment of our Instructor Spotlight series, we’re pleased to introduce you to Joanne Fraser. She is one of the great instructors from our Adult Learning & Teaching program at the Faculty of Open Learning & Career Development.

Let’s get to know her as she answers these questions:

1) How long have you been in the field of Adult Education?

I started facilitating training for adults in 1998 after I took a program design course at the Tatamagouche Centre - so it has been 26 years.

2) What has been the biggest change in your field in recent years?

The move from face-to-face training to the online environment. The need for online training was growing and was accelerated by COVID. I have been happy to continue my own learning by transitioning courses to the virtual world.

3) What’s the most surprising thing we might see on your resume/CV?

That I lived and worked in Papua New Guinea for 5 years with a development organization - CUSO. I also have a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics.

4) How do you unwind?

Through activity and exercise - I do a short strength and stretching routine daily. I also cycle, hike, and camp in the summer and downhill ski in the winter. This is balanced by watching lots of Netflix series and documentaries.

5) What's the best aspect of teaching with the Faculty?

The great groups of learners that I get to work with. I am always impressed with their curiosity and commitment to learning. I am also fascinated by their diverse mix of jobs and interests.  It's like having a small window into other people's lives for a short time.

Joanne is the instructor for the , and courses that are part of our . We’re grateful for her enthusiasm and commitment to learners.
