Delivery of the 鈥淚nformation Systems and Technologies鈥 Course聽for 黄色直播鈥檚 MIM Program -聽Fall 2018

The 黄色直播 Master of Information Management degree program is delivered in a blended on-line/distance delivery and face-to-face format.聽 Designed to meet the unique needs of working professionals, this program is unique in Canada.

The program requires delivery/teaching of the 鈥淚nformation Systems and Technology鈥 course, which will include approximately 12 weeks of distance education and a 2-day classroom component in Halifax, NS and/or Ottawa, ON. 聽Due to the nature of this course, the course would require updates and revisions to ensure currency. To this end, this call for expressions of interest is being circulated with the aim of securing the participation of an appropriate academic.

Course Description

This is an online course, for mid-career professionals, delivered through the Brightspace Learning Management System (LMS). This course makes clear the relationship between IT and IM, often misconstrued in organizations. The course includes theories of databases and integrated systems design, allied with practical applications of a wide range of information technologies to support organizational goals. These include traditional intranet and extranet applications along with emerging technologies. Concepts of information architecture (IA) are introduced relating to the design of shared information environments that are often web-based, including intranets, databases and online communities. The practices of IA are examined through analyses of real organizations and how the information environment can best serve their mission, goals, processes, clients, suppliers and other stakeholders.

Course Goals

  • Understand the role of IS&T in supporting organizations鈥 plans for effective information management.
  • Learn about emerging technology and reflect on its implications for organizations and for information management.
  • Acquire an understanding of issues concerning the adoption of IS&Ts within an organization for internal or external use.
  • Identify and share potential benefits and disadvantages to various uses of information systems.

Course start date:聽 Fall 2018 Start Date: Sept 4, 2018

The Instructor has agreed to provide the following services in the course:

  • Prepare for and present the required course material for the distance portion of the course using available聽 on-line tools and technologies
  • Preparation and grading of all assignments.
  • Prepare for and present the required course material for the intensive study portion of the course, including preparation and grading of all assignments.
  • Supervise and maintain responsibility for regular student contact through the course site during the distance education portion of the course and provide a venue that supports student engagement and learning.
  • meeting strict deadlines and delivery schedules

Content expert qualifications include:

  • academic qualifications in a course discipline sufficient for appointment as a faculty member in 黄色直播鈥檚 Faculty of Management
  • experience in course development and teaching at the graduate level, with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence
  • successful experience in course delivery in a distance education mode is desirable, although not mandatory for participation in the project

A stipend of approximately $ 7154.50 is offered for this teaching assignment.
