Dr. Fiona Black appointed Associate Vice‑President Academic

Dr. Carolyn Watters, Vice-President Academic and Provost, on behalf of the search committee, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Fiona Black to the position of Associate Vice-President Academic for a five-year term, effective July 1, 2013.  Dr. Black has over 10 years of experience in academic administration at »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥, as School Director, Associate Dean and, most recently, in a seconded position (60%) to the Office of the Vice-President Academic and Provost as Director, Academic Planning, 2012-13. She has received a number of awards for her administrative and professional leadership at »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ and in the U.K. Dr. Black has extensive experience with program planning and reviews, and with curriculum development. She has chaired accreditation review panels in the field of information science at universities in the U.S. and Canada. Dr. Black’s teaching has focused recently on Research Methods and Organizational Management and Strategy.

Dr. Black’s principal external grants and publications are in the areas of digital humanities, print culture history, and professional education. She was one of seven scholars across Canada who led the award winning bilingual project for A History of the Book in Canada supported by a Major Collaborative Research Initiative grant from SSHRC, and published by the University of Toronto Press. Dr. Black has an exemplary portfolio of publications, scholarly reviews, and scholarly conference papers.
