In November four Corporate Residency MBA students travelled to the National Investment Banking Competition (NIBC) and conference in Toronto to represent the Rowe School of Business. NIBC is the world's largest investment banking competition, with teams from North America, Europe and Asia competing.
The Rowe School team was coached by Professor Gregory Adolphe-Nazaire, and included Ryan Bunker, Jack Dallaire, David Hatcher and Haydn McInroy.
To qualify for the competition, the students prepared a report and a detailed financial model evaluating strategic alternatives for Netflix. They were selected as one of 32 graduate-level teams from a pool of over 300 to compete in the final round.
For the participants, entering the competition was a rewarding experience in itself. Jack Dallaire found that it has helped him understand complex financial concepts in a new way: "It allowed us to think practically about the subjects we have learned in the classroom," he says, including financial modelling and interpreting datasets.
At the competition, the team was given an investment banking transaction scenario to evaluate, and prepared a live boardroom presentation for a panel of investment banking professionals that included executives from top firms on Toronto's Bay Street and New York's Wall Street. They were selected as one of the top two teams and gave a presentation to over 500 people at the event's gala dinner.
Nazaire is proud of how well the team represented the Rowe School at the international event. 鈥淭hese students had the drive to excel, the humility to acknowledge their weaknesses, and yet they had the confidence they can beat any business school in the world,鈥 he says. 鈥淭heir achievement is an inspiration to all of us in the Rowe School.鈥
