Employer: »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ Agricultural Campus, Department of Plant, Food and Environmental Science, Truro NS.
Job hours and term: 35 hours per week for 16-17 weeks. Two or more jobs starting May 3 to May 10 2021.
One of the jobs will extend part-time to Nov 2021, contingent on need and funding.
Rate of Pay: According to the »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ Student Pay scale, between $13.89 and $17.64 hourly, depending on years of university completed and relevant experience.
Job Description: Care and maintenance of outdoor demonstration areas of food (and fiber) crops, including Demonstration Garden, Orchard, and the Plumdale Field Research facility. Soil preparation, fertilizing,
planting, irrigation, weeding, pest monitoring and control, pruning, trellising, mulching and caring for crops and maintaining both the plots and surrounding grounds. Will include operation of small power equipment. May include operating small farm tractors and equipment; training will be provided as needed. Maintain plots to high standards and answer visitor questions. Seed inventory and testing, preparing signage, and other tasks as needed.
Job Requirements:
Dal AC students returning to full time studies in Plant Science for fall of 2020 are given preference. Students in programs requiring summer internships for which this internship is relevant will also be
given special consideration. Other candidates are not excluded.
Due to funding program restrictions, one or more of the available jobs may be restricted to Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents under 30 years of age.
Ability to do physical work outdoors with soils and plants in seasonal weather conditions.
Ability to follow directions and work independently or in teams as needed.
Must provide your own CSA safety footwear and appropriate clothing (including wet-wear) for various weather conditions.
Training and experience in field crop, vegetable and fruit crop production is an asset.
Previous training or experience in operation of small equipment and/or farm tractors or equipment is an asset.
Good computer and digital communication skills is an asset.
Valid unrestricted class 5 N.S. Driver’s License with safe driver training and a good driving record is an asset.
Current Emergency First Aid, WHIMS, OH&S completed is an asset.
