Writing Centre Dal AC Tutors needed

The Writing Centre at the »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ Agricultural Campus in Truro seeks student tutors to work approximately 4-6 hours per week during the 2020-21 academic year.

Writing Centre tutors focus on developing student writers by offering support at all stages in the writing process while maintaining student ownership over writing tasks and assignments.

Candidates should possess proficiency in writing and communication, knowledge of the building blocks of good writing, experience studying English or composition and/or writing scientific papers, the ability to solve problems, and demonstrated interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities include:
• Meeting one-on-one with students virtually (via TEAMS) or in person as per COVID restrictions
• Helping students identify the strengths and weaknesses of their writing
• Explaining grammatical and mechanical writing problems
• Discussing structural concerns in pieces of writing
• Suggesting possible solutions for students
• Working with students writing scientific papers
• Directing students to resources on the following topics, among others: integrating sources, proper citation format, academic integrity, writing in the disciplines
• Referring students to the Writing Advisor or scheduling future appointments
• Recording the reason for the visit and other statistical and demographic information for users of the Centre
• Comfortable presenting to classes in person or virtually

This position is based at the »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ Agricultural Campus in Truro; preference is given to students studying at the Agricultural Campus.

Payment is $14/hour for undergraduate students, $15/hour for Master’s students and $20/hour for PhD students.
