In partnership with The Centre for Entrepreneurship Education and Development (CEED), Cultiv8 is hosting its first Entrepreneurship camp on campus beginning Monday, August 14th, 2017.
CEED is a non-profit organization that has been committed to advancing and supporting the spirit of Entrepreneurship in Nova Scotia for more than 20 years.聽聽
The five-day camp is a hands-on experiential learning experience for students in grades 4-7 that introduces and fosters enterprising behaviours.
"Cultiv8 is excited to partner with CEED for such an amazing event," said Holly Fisher, Cultiv8 Assistant Coordinator.聽 We think getting kids thinking about entrepreneurship at a young age will have a huge聽impact on their lives. This camp will help kids realize there are so many different opportunities for them and they can start building the necessary skills now."
Entrepreneurship campers are challenged with exciting competitions; learn from real entrepreneurs and visit local businesses. Guest speakers from the local entrepreneurial community come in to talk about their own businesses and give handy tips to campers.
Throughout camp, participants explore basic concepts and practices of marketing and business planning. Moreover, they learn how to carry out basic forms of budgeting through working with our financial logbooks. It鈥檚 a great way to keep track of their expenses and profits!
Mid-week, campers set out on a field trip to visit local businesses and ask questions to fuel their personal growth as entrepreneurs. By the fourth day, campers launch their own businesses and test their products or services 鈥渋n the real world鈥. This is what our campers have been working towards since the first day of camp.聽 With a little support from the facilitation team, it鈥檚 the campers time to shine. At the end of the day, the campers pay back their seed loan and tally up their profits, maybe even put it toward their future businesses!
Sale day for Truro campers will be Thursday, August 17th, 2017 at Truro Mall.聽 Please consider supporting these budding entrepreneurs during your lunch hour!
The last day is usually the most nerve-wracking for the young entrepreneurs. Family members and friends are invited to the Pitch Competition.聽 In front of a panel of guest judges, each camper team presents their journey: what they learned and discovered, how they surprised themselves and what they might change if they were to do it again.聽聽
Each camper receives a special recognition award to acknowledge their amazing, individual talents portrayed throughout the week.聽
