A request for applications has been issued for Creating Hope in Conflict: A Humanitarian Grand Challenge. This is a new initiative supported by Grand Challenges Canada in partnership with USAid and the UK Department for International Development.
This Grand Challenge seeks to identify and support groundbreaking local solutions that engage the private sector and draw from the experiences of affected communities in order to significantly improve - and in many cases, save - the lives of vulnerable people affected by conflict. Through this first call for innovations, life-saving or life-improving innovations are sought to help the most vulnerable and hardest-to-reach people impacted by humanitarian crises caused by conflict. These innovations will engage the private sector and involve input from affected communities in order to provide, supply, or locally generate safe water and sanitation, energy, life-saving information, or health supplies and services to help conflict-affected people.
The initiative anticipates awarding both seed grants (valued at up to $250,000 and lasting up to 2 years) as well as transition-to-scale grants (valued at up to $1M and lasting up to 2 years). To receive seed funding, applicants must demonstrate potential relevance to, or identify potential opportunities for, collaboration with the private sector.
More information, including links to the guidelines and application forms, can be found .
Any »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ faculty member who is interested in this call is asked to contact the International Research Facilitator (jennifer.morawiecki@dal.ca), for further information and support in preparing an application.
