The first calls for proposals have been launched by Horizon 2020, the main financial tool through which the European Commission supports research and development activities covering almost all disciplines - including ICT; Space; Materials and Biotechnology; Health; Sustainable Agriculture; Food Security; Water; Marine/Oceans; Transport; Energy; Security; Climate Action/Environment; and Societies.Ìý Open calls can be searched at:

Though projects and other activities funded by Horizon 2020 must be led by EU institutions, international collaboration with third countries such as Canada is actively encouraged.Ìý Canadian participation in these projects can be funded if the expertise they bring to the project is vital and cannot be found within the EU.
Any Dal faculty member interested in Horizon 2020 is asked to contact Jennifer Morawiecki (jennifer.morawiecki@dal.ca) for more information.Ìý Please note that International Research & Development in »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥ Research Services will be hosting information sessions on Horizon 2020 early in the new year, and details of these events will be announced soon.
Interested faculty are also encouraged to sign up for the newsletter of the Ottawa-based organization ERA-Can+ (tasked with increasing Canadian participation in Horizon 2020), and get updates on project activities and relevant news in the field of EU-Canada research and innovation collaboration:
